If I’m Under Here, Then It’s Ok - 2019

Performed at Caraboo Projects Bristol for Bristol Live Art (BLA)

Performed unannounced at a gallery opening. 6 performers are mingling with the crowd. All at once they take blankets out of their bags and put them over their heads, hiding beneath them. The performers are scattered throughout the gallery space, standing underneath their blankets. They begin to recite short lyrics of love songs

“Don’t you want me baby, don’t you want me? OOO ooo oo o”

“Baby I need your loving, got to have all you loving”

“Love me love me say that you love me, need me need me go on and need me”

The performers begin searching, blind under their blankets for someone who is singing the same song as them. They keep repeating their love song lyrics, searching through the crowd.

The performance continues with a revealing, blankets are thrown off, vulnerabilities exposed. The performers then move with their blankets, showing the different ways we might be when giving and receiving love. Some drag around their love, some push it away and then run after it, some wrap themselves tightly in love, some carefully and painstakingly fold and control their love.

The performance ends without ceremony, blankets are put back in bags and the performers mingle back into the crowd.
